What ZO Skin Health Actually Does

ZO Skin Health is a physician-dispensed skincare line developed by Dr. Zein Obagi, a dermatologist. The distinction that matters is not the branding. It is that these are prescription-strength formulations meant to be chosen by a provider who has looked at your skin, and adjusted as it responds.

What separates it from retail skincare

Concentration and oversight. Retail actives have to be safe for anyone who picks up the bottle, which caps how strong they can be. Physician-dispensed lines can go higher, because someone is deciding whether your skin can tolerate it and telling you what to do when it reacts.

That is also why it is not sold without a consultation. A retinoid strong enough to change your skin is a retinoid strong enough to irritate it.

What it treats

The range covers acne, hyperpigmentation, redness, texture, and the visible effects of sun damage. Most regimens are built from a cleanser, a corrective active, a barrier product, and sun protection, roughly in that order of importance.

How it gets prescribed

A regimen is written for your skin rather than selected off a shelf, and it changes over time. The first six weeks are usually an adjustment period. Check-ins exist because the right product at the wrong frequency will make skin worse before it makes it better.
